The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, for the first time, has released data on cases and deaths in the United States by vaccination status and vaccine manufacturer. The data from 16 public health departments, including Connecticut’s, represent 30 percent of the nation’s population.
The graphs below include reports from April 4 to Sept. 4.
Cases By Vaccination Status
On Aug. 15, when cases peaked, 736.72 cases per 100,000 people were reported among the unvaccinated, with 121.40 cases per 100,000 people among the fully vaccinated.
These numbers, and those in each CDC graph here, show that when COVID-19 hits a state hard, the unvaccinated are hit hardest and the fully vaccinated have the best protection against the virus. The next level of vaccine protection, the booster shot, is expected to become available to an even greater number of Americans.
“If you’re eligible for a booster, which is currently Pfizer for a lot of people, you should go out and get that booster,” says Dr. Ulysses Wu, Hartford HealthCare’s System Director of Infection Disease and Chief Epidemiologist.
